Well, my name is John Oliver and cancel culture is quite literally the cancer that is killing RUclips, other social media and everything it touches. People get outraged in masses at the most trivial of things and kill off people's careers and even livelihoods purely for their own self gratification. This is not about doing the right thing but about venting frustration about their lives, feeling morally superior and acknowledged. It is just a disgusting new expression of gossip, and bring part of the right group, the good group and thus grasping at straws to condemn others for the rush of dopamine when they circle jerk each other because it's a clear us versus them side but without any real risk or downsides. That's why any excuse is used to try get others cancelled so people can get their next fix and just like the junkies they are they cannot, will not, do not want to see how much worse they make things. Just condemning people and seeing them lose some popularity for saying or doing something stupid proportionally to how bad it was is no longer enough as the rush of having been a part of the movement cancelling xyz celebrity is too empowering and too addictive. Mel Gibson got rightfully cancelled for over 5 years in the 2010s because of his multiple disgusting racist rants but what people try to do now is get celebrities cancelled for life because the said one thing that was not pc and that is insane. And when it gets to non famous people it gets downright criminal as people will gleefully try to ruin someone's entire life because of one thoughtless post, one stupid misunderstanding and because they feel powerful, influential, meaningful people do not care that they are taking away the livelihood of not a celebrity with millions in the bank but just am ordinary person struggling to make ends meet and truly suffering because of this.
